The history of Sour Patch Kids does not go a very long way back. The candies were first introduced to USA in 1985 and were produced for the first time in Canada in 1970. It is speculated that the Sour Patch Kids have been inspired by a product called Mars Men made by Frank Galatolie in 1970s.
In the start, Sour Patch Kids were shaped as martians to represent the enthusiasm of people towards space and astronauts. They then transformed into children to capitalize on the Cabbage Patch Kids craze of the 1980s. Regardless of their shape, these “sour then sweet” candies, as the saying goes, were a huge success. Originally, Sour Patch Kids came in lemon, lime, orange, and raspberry. However, this year, a new berry flavor was added to the bunch.
Now, there are a lot of kinds of Sour Patch Kids on the market such as Xploders, X-Treme, Fruits, Berries, Xmas Kids, Chillerz, Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, Peach, Cherry, Sour Apple, Bunnies, and Zombies, along with some of the classic flavors.
