Sour Patch Kids rose to popularity in the early 1980s when Jaret International partnered with M&A Candy to launch it in the US. The candy was rebranded to Sour Patch Kids to cater to and appeal to the US market. It was an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids and appeal to the audience that loved sweet and sour tastes.
